National Spaghetti Day!

As if you need another reason to enjoy a delicious bowl of spaghetti!
no, this is not a picture I took.
(dinner didn't last long enough for me to capture one!)

Spaghetti (or pasketti, depending on your age) is one of the quickest and easiest meals to throw together. And even though you might be thinking that it won't fit with your new New Year's resolutions, you would be wrong. In our house we've made a few easy swaps that lower the calories tremendously in the classic dish.
First off, we now use a brown rice pasta (better carb source.. more complex... tastes just as good). Also, we use ground turkey meatballs and a healthier low sodium marinara sauce. Of course the most important thing is portion. While we are working on tightening our belts a little more, we have always been pretty good about portion size. And, while it might not be the most exciting of things, you can have as much salad as you want on the side! Enjoy!

  1. You could even make your own pasta sauce to make it even healthier. If you have the time . . . and tomato plants . . . and it's summer . . . and you have a pressure canner . . . have I mentioned I still buy sauce? lol
